We are looking for a Controller to join our team.  As the Controller, you’ll be responsible for the accounting operations of Thompson Creek and affiliated companies. Accounting operations includes the accurate and timely recording of business transactions, production of periodic financial reports and maintenance of a strong system of internal controls.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Design and implement an accounting department organizational structure adequate for achieving the Company's goals and objectives.
  • Manage, train, develop and mentor the accounting staff.
  • Design, implement, monitor, and enforce the accounting system, which includes the accounting software and policies and procedures that collectively produce a strong internal control environment.
  • Actively lead and manage the activities of the Accounting Department, such that all business transactions for all companies are recorded accurately and timely and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Work with the Financial Analyst to prepare budgets and forecasts, communicate financial expectations to P&L owners, analyze variances from expectations, and develop corrective actions.
  • Prepare and distribute timely and accurate financial reports, such that the Company’s management can make appropriate and timely business decisions.
  • Monitor the Company’s financial performance and conduct and communicate an appropriate level of financial analysis that helps to identify and explain context, trends, relationships and future business decisions.
  • Ensure that payroll is processed, business expenses are reimbursed, and related payroll tax compliance matters are managed accurately and timely.
  • Manage cash balances and associated checking account and wiring activities efficiently and effectively.
  • Ensure that accounts receivable balances are collected timely to the greatest extent possible, and when not possible, take all necessary follow up actions, including collection calls, agency referrals, etc.
  • Monitor inventory balances to ensure efficient levels for the associated business activities.
  • Ensure that purchase orders are reviewed and approved and that supplier and other 3rd party vendor balances are paid timely.
  • Oversee the annual financial statement audit, which includes interfacing with the audit manager and staff, preparing all required audit schedules and analyses, responding to all inquiries, and preparing the associated financial reports.
  • Ensure that the Company is compliant with relevant tax and regulatory requirements, which includes overseeing preparation of all business and principal owner tax returns, preparing the associated returns and schedules and/or interfacing directly with the external tax preparers.
  • Conduct special projects as required to support Company objectives.

Qualifications

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar and 7 to 10 years of progressively responsible public accounting or related experience; any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience understanding manufacturing P&Ls is a plus.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); advanced skills using SAP CRM and ECC.
  • CPA required
